Baby radish

This is my favorite picture from my last trip to the garden: it is a baby radish. There were planted at the beginning of October and a week later, we could already see them coming out; I think it is quite rewarding. I also find interesting to see the evolution between this early stage of the growth and the final state of the radish. Fun fact: I tasted it and it already had a bit of taste! – Text and photo by Gabrielle

Garden visit

When we went to the garden, it was cold and cloudy. There wasn’t that much noise except the sound of wind and a crow.
Despite bad weather, the garden was quite nice thanks to vegetation. I enjoyed the smell of different plants such as rosemary, thyme, lavander, jasmine, santalina… Photos and text by Mathilde L.

Photos of interest

Here are some photos of elements that I found beautiful or interesting during the
visit of the garden. – by Clara

Beetroots

Beetroots are known as a French home produce. Indeed, this vegetable has been traditionally grown to make white sugar, the one we use daily in coffee, tea or cakes. However, we all know that sugar is problematic, especially for health issues. But today, beetroots have become a trendy vegetable, forgetting the image of the canteen dish. Many cuisine influencers and cooks have set new cakes recipes replacing sugar by beetroots to propose healthy delights: Let’s try! – Photo and text by Halil

Backyard Composter

We encourage ENPC students to use the backyard composter. Your food scraps will be transformed into compost with the help of humidity and aeration. The waste is converted into a perfect fertilizer for the plants of the garden! – from Manuel

Herbs and alcohol

From Matthieu: I’ve taken this picture of chartreuse because I’m fascinated in the alcohol created with herbs.

Captivating petals

From Nawfal:

Despite its  beautiful captivating petals, my fingers got hurt by a thorn when I tried to hold its stem. This made me think of all the subtle techniques that nature uses in order to protect itselfNawfal.

Red plants

From: Suzanne

I took a photo of some leaves on the top of little tree that were red. There is not a lot of red in the garden, that’s why it struck me. There was one of the only red roses of the garden next to it and it was as if the little group of leaves wanted to imitate it.

The garden has an impressive diversity and even if at a first sight it seems to be dead and dry, it contains a lot of flowers and beasts. Why not to put a lemon verbena tea tree in itSuzanne?

Our new students from We Are What We Eat discovered the garden for the first time and took pictures of things they found interesting.

This is the first of many posts of their findings.

From Valentin:
I took pictures of mint and dill herb, because these plants are easy to maintain and are useful in the kitchen. Dill can add flavour to a dish and with fresh mint we can make tea. Everyone could easily grow these plants in pots, or on the edge of a window for example.
